Here is a new (about time) episode of "Life in the Verse" with Dogwing... With 3.18 being so close to release, I couldn't find the inspiration to play a "dead patch" so I had parked SC for some time while 3.18 was prepared for release and then, the bugs addressed. So, let's get down to it shall we? As most of you already know, 3.18 brought with it a new gameplay feature that, frankly, I have been waiting for a very long time: Salvaging! A while back, I had bought the "Entrepreneur Pack", the one with the Vulcan, Prospector, Hull B and Ursa Rover, which contains a Vulture as well, and I was eager for the Vulture's release... and it's finally here! I did find the time to head into the black and try the salvaging game loop a few times before this episode and, since I didn't get as much time to play as I would have loved, I still managed to salvage a few pieces here and there and, once I was done, I would head back to my homebase, and store my ship. On my next play session, I would just continue where I left off and all the boxes of RMC would still be in the ship. Sweet! In one of these sessions, my original plan was to head out to A18 to sell off my cargo hold filled with 9 or 10 SCU's of RMC. I was already aware of pilots filling their Vulture to the brim, bringing the total RMC boxes to 23 or 24 and even, 26 (with a two-man operation) boxes in some cases! So, upon exiting the station, I thought why not fill her up, right? And it's when it all started... So, I headed out into the black and started pinging away for salvageable ship panels, in no specific direction. After a few minutes, I found some "stuff" to salvage. I started filling the cargo hold and everything was going smooth and then, disaster struck! I died... from what, I don't know, an angry crate I was moving? Clipping into the ship floor? To this day, I still have no idea! So, back to my spawn point hospital, and with the cargo hold almost full, I didn't want to let this cargo fall into the hands of someone else, but the issue at the time was I had no idea in which direction I flew in my initial search for material! I still decided to get one of my ship out to go find it and, as I was about to call my Nomad, a thought (another one) occurred to me! Why not get a bigger ship and fill the cargo hold with RMC? PES is here so my Vulture should still be around, right? So, out came the MSR and off I was, pinging like crazy in every direction to find my Vulture because I didn't see a corpse marker. At some point, I noticed a lone distance marker with no information, or icon other than "20km" marking from my current position. I decided to head for it and investigate further. As I got closer, it started showing the white icon denoting an abandoned ship, and a little later, the name "Vulture" appeared. I was suddenly hopeful that this was my lost ship. As I got really close, it became apparent that this was my ship and I was pretty ecstatic at that point! Hurrah for PES!!! I approached my Vulture, aligning the rear ramps "face-to-face" (so to speak) so I could tractor beam the boxes from the Vulture to the MSR. I was able to empty the Vulture into the MSR no problem. Now with this done and enough time to play, I hopped into my Vulture and started salvaging the reminder of the ship panels (3) at the site, returning to the MSR to empty the cargo hold of the Vulture as it got full. I did this three times more, and I was able to salvage all the RMC at the site. Now it was time to get back to A18 and sell that loot. I got back in my MSR's seat and headed straight to A18 TDD's terminal to sell that RMC for a pretty good amount of money, all 32 boxes of it! With my day over, I headed back to my homebase and, funnily, as I got out of quantum, a ping appeared on my HUD! Guess what it was? You guessed it, my trusty Vulture! lol... Ok, a new plan formed (yet another one) to rescue my Vulture from potential salvagers. I didn't want to leave either my MSR or my Vulture out there so back to my base to store the MSR and, out came the Pisces Rescue and in no time, I was away and heading towards my Vulture, hopped in the Vulture's seat and got her back to base! That was a very interesting experience and I was surprised to see how easy and how well it went in the end. All the while though, I was a bit nervous, as you never know when a bug can ruin your day of work, and kill that enthusiasm! lol... Now I always set a QT point and move out in that general direction while searching for "pings", this will make it easier to find my Vulture should a bug happens. :-)

Captain's log: 2952-10-18-001
I was watching a Youtube video of a guy doing trade runs in his Caterpillar, so I thought, why not? So I picked up Sc00ter and we set out into the black to the planetary system of Arccorp, on our way to ArcCorp Mining Area 056 on Wala, to fill my Caterpillar's cargo hold with ore to trade at Area 18. Everything was going according to plan and we were on our final approach to the landing pad when suddenly, I spot a red blip on my radar! Well, I was not going to take any chances so I aborted my landing procedure and flew away as fast as the Cat was letting me! I then decided to head to a different planetary system and flew towards Hurston. Once there, I punched the coordinates in the nav computer to HDMS-Hahn on Magda. On our way, we received a message from Cap-Obvious and he wanted to be part of the crew for this trip so he managed to join us at HDMS-Hahn and the crew of the Cat was complete. Once at the trading terminal, I grab all the Diamond they had in stock, about half the cargo hold of the Cat. Once loaded, we set out to HDMS-Perlman to, hopefully, full the cargo hold of the ship for maximum profit. We land at HDMS-Perlman and I manage to fill the rest of the cargo hold with Diamonds. In the meantime, Cap-Obvious went out to fetch Sc00ter a helmet because she forgot her helmet at ARC-L1! Once done, we take off and make our way to Loreville on Hurston to sell the Diamond we purchased on Magda for a nice 60,000 aUEC of profit! Not too bad for 45 minutes of work! And, like most things in the verse, it couldn't stay that way unfortunately! We were hit by a 30k crash and ended up all on Bajini Point. We called out the Cat again for another run and again, we encountered some issues but first, I have to mention that my Quantum display was acting up all this time. My target locations would disappear on a regular basis and I had to reset the Quantum drive all the time just to be able to lock on a location to jump to, very annoying! So, my ship is on the landing pad and we all board it no issues. I look at my fuel level and notice they are quite low so I request a refuelling and guess what, I'm denied! I am unable to refill my tanks! Ok then, fine... we leave the station and head for Lyria since I had a full crew and they were ready to defend the ship if we encountered pirates. We get to Lyria, more precisely at Shubin Mining Facility SAL-2 and on exiting the ship, Cap-Obvious and me get out from the elevator but Sc00ter was left in the ship. She decides that, instead of getting the lift up, to jump out of the ship! Well, I don't know if she raw Quantanium on her or what, but the ship blew up!!! We are here, stranded on Lyria, not able to get any ship with a drive that could get us out of this mess! While discussing various ways to get us out of this predicament, my crew notices a ship on final approach to SAL-2. Immediately I get in the chat asking the captain of the ship fore help. It turned out that the captain was monitoring the chat because he did saw us and was kind enough to give us a ride to the nearest station, thank you A-Maxwell, that was greatly appreciated! But, by now you must think that's not a pretty bad way to finish a trade session right, right? That it could have been worse? Well, the end of the story got worse! The ship blew up... again! So yeah, most of us died, at least I did since I was still in the ship, and found myself back at ARC-L1, my port of call! A well, that was too much for one evening so I decided to call it a night and dismissed my crew to go do whatever they wanted! Well, thanks for all who participated in that fun evening, and A-Maxwell, sorry for blowing up you Phoenix, it was a beautiful ship! ;-) Captain's log: 2952-09-22-001 Well, another episode of "Life in the Verse" with Dogwing... and Sc00ter! First, thanks Sc00ter for the evening, it was a really stressful and fun evening! I loved it, we should do that more often! So, it all started when Sc00ter ask me to potentially save her butt since she thought she would be stranded somewhere in the middle of the black after a mishap while mining, nothing serious, she just fell asleep while breaking a rock!!! So, me being me, I said; "Sure, I'll get you out of that mess". Turns out she had one too many drinks last night as she was in her cubicle on ARC-L1! Oh well! After a big discussion, we then banded together for some MOLE mining. We went to a new secret spot of her that turned out to be dry! Could this stop us from having fun? No, not all as we happily got over one of the ship's bunk... euh, oh wait, wrong person, wrong story! lol... So, where was I, ah yes! We decided to go planetside, or moonside should I say, and went to Lyria to mine the "Lyria's Famous Big Rocks". We scanned the surface for about 15 minutes, with no signs of "Lyria's Famous Big Rocks" showing up, but then, I detected a ping on my radar! I could see the ship behind a rock I just scanned, and although it seemed friendly, I couldn't identify it and it was hiding behind the rock, like it was waiting for us. Thanks to Sc00t, she was able to identify it as a Buccaneer... Buccaneer rhymes with what? Yeah, you guessed it, pirate! So we got the "hell out of dodge" in no time to a safe spot. I made sure he wasn't following us and indeed, he wasn't! But we were not done yet and went to another outpost and resumed our scanning of the surface again and then, "Bang!", jackpot! We got a forty-per-center of 5.5k mass!!! With Sc00t manning the mining laser and me monitoring the radar, she managed to break it all up and when done, we had about 45-55 SCU's of Quant in the bags. We set out to ARC-L1 to sell our spoil of the day. I can say that landing a big ship like the MOLE isn't an easy job, ask Sc00t, she knows! I, somehow, managed to land the brick too far out of the landing pad, so its butt was sticking out of the hangar (I think!) and when the door closed, they hit the ship!!! To my dismay, it didn't blow up as I half-expected it to, you know, this being an Alpha and all full of Quant! So I ran my ass-off to the terminal to store my ship! All good... it seems! We both ran to the refinery to visualize our catch of the day! And guess what? No Quant! Nada, nyet, nothing!!! How could this be! We don't know but if you do, please let us know! So, all in all, bug and all, it was still a great evening and we will definitely do that again, even if we are only the two of us! Oh... and the moral of the story, use F4 when landing big ships, especially in hangars, you'll thank me later!! Captain's log: 2952-09-07-001
On this episode of "Life in the Verse with Dogwing", one of my buddy decided to try the game, thanks to the free-flight they are having at the moment. So he downloads the game, and we meet at New Babbage (NB) on Microtech (MT). I give him a few pieces of armor and we head out to New Babbage Interstellar Spaceport (NBIS). We decide to do a mission to one of the new derelict outpost, so he can experience all the new, shinny stuff. The capsule is arriving at it's destination, I get off and wait for him to follow me... I notice is not moving and he tells me it's all black... Oh ho... not good!!! As I was about to tell him not to move, he does and disappears! My poor bud experienced the falling through the planet bug! lol... So, he suicides himself... gets out of the hospital while I head back to Aspire Grand to pick him up. Once there, we get him some meds (which I forgot to tell him to take the first time around) and off we are again to NBIS. This time proves to be the right one because we make it alive, against all odds, both of us! I get my Mercury Night Runner (MSR with the Nightrunner paint) out and we take off, after giving him a tour of the ship, which proved to be a good thing... keep reading! Of course I'm in the pilot seat, him in the co-pilot seat and we chat, I explain some aspect of the game and all that stuff you know, all the things a noob needs to know, right! And then... BHAM... Crash to Desktop! God damn... he sees me disappear but he is still in my ship! I try to log back in as quickly as I can, but I'm getting an error message and I need to verify my files... Damn it!!! Too late... my ship explodes and he, of course, dies! I finally manage to get back into the game, and guess what, I wake up in Grim Hex with, you guessed it... a lvl2 crime stat (CS)! Yup, all because I "CTD'ed"! lol... So, I decide to go get back to MT, at the pick up site, because I was not going near NB with a crime stat, no sir! I get out of my ship and recon the derelict outpost site, in the pitch black night of MT. I was hoping to get some bad guys but nope, not a single baddy was present. I pick up the package while my buddy was on its way to meet me. It was a really cool site watching him get closer to me until it was time to land! Oh Bay has he got some learning to do! lol... He manages to blow the starboard wing of his Titan (3d spatial awareness, you know!) by hitting a tree top! It was so funny watching him! lol... Anyway, I digress... back on topic! So I keep laughing at him while he tries to land his ship... took him a good 3-4 minutes to land! Once he has landed and was out of his ship, we finally meet up and band together. We move towards the outpost in the hopes of finding some loot so he can equip his character! Well, of course not... this this was as dry as Sahara desert in July!!! After that, we then proceeded back to our ships and seeing at the state of his ship, we decided it would be best to hop in mine to complete the delivery to, yeah, you guessed, on of NB rooftops! So, we go to MT, with my CS and all, to the building roof top for the drop off. We manage to finish the mission and each got the 2k promised for delivering the box but, I'm still stuck with my CS2! We leave the roof and head out for an undisclosed location, I land my ship and ask him to shoot me... which he did (and I'm sure he enjoyed it, the bastard)! I woke up in prison this morning! So yeah, thanks buddy for the CS2 and the trip to prison! lol... Captain's log: 2952-08-01-001
Well, well, well... In the now "ongoing" series of "Dogwing's (mis)adventures in Star Citizen", here is a recap of this morning's play session! I logged in as usual on ARC-L1 and decided I wanted to try mining in 3.17.2. So, I head out of my spawning bed and realize I need fluid. I proceed to open my inventory (because now, with some hard learned lessons, I always carry some bottles of some sort on me) and right-click on a bottle to drink... No can do though, the game won't let me drink it but since, I'm on a station, I head down to the food court, and buy two delicious beverages to up my fluid level to around 80%. Time to head to the ASOP terminal to call my Prospector, and sure enough, there she is sitting in my assigned hangar. I quickly climb aboard and launch my take off procedure. I'm finally ready to take off and ask for permission, which the ATC provides me and I launched into the vast blackness of space! As soon as I clear the hangar's doors... BHAM!!! CTD!!! Oh well... So I decide to log back in and I was expecting to be either in the hospital of the station bed. Surprise, surprise! None of this... I am floating in space!!! lol... So, I turn around and see my ship below me and then proceed to board it with no issue! Once in my ship, I open my map to find out that I'm not at ARC-L1 as I thought I would be but... in the middle of the system! Ok, no biggie, I have enough QT fuel to get to anywhere I need so I head back to ARC-L1. Once on ARC-L1, I plot a course to my regular mining spot in the Belt and I get there without problem. Now, time to get down to business! I start pinging the area for rocks. I find a few contact and I start heading for them but... what is happening, my ship is barely moving! I'm thinking what the hell is broken this time! So, I hopped in 3rd person view and apply forward thrust... good, at least my engines are working! I orbit around my ship and the reverse thrusters are "also" working! I checked my settings in the option menu but nothing is wrong, they are all good! Well, only one thing to do, I bed log out of the game to see if it will fix it! Ok, so back in the game, in my ship, all is good... or so I thought! Or actually, I was hoping all was good! I hop in the pilot seat, power up the ship and start pinging for rocks. Well, that's funny, where are all the rocks? I mean, I "see" rocks but not a single one is mineable!!! What the hell is wrong this time? So I test my thrusters and sure enough, they work as intended! Ok, so back to the bed to log out! Ok, so back in the game for the what? The fourth time now! Frankly. I lost count at this point! Back in my ship, all is good... for now! Back in the pilot seat, power up the ship, test the thrusters, they work fine, test the pinging, all good, mineable rocks are back! I'm like, yeah, finally... but, sadly, no!!! After the 3rd or 4th rock I scanned, POUFF!!! Yep, you guessed it... my ship despawned on me, leaving me yet again floating in space but my ship was nowhere to be found! I asked for help in chat and create a rescue beacon. A nice pilot came to my rescue and picked my up to give me ride to the nearest station! I thanked him, got off his ship and guess what? Because no, it couldn't stop there, could it... oh no... SC was not done with me yet! I get to the elevator, call up the interaction key and... no circle to interact with the elevator panel! So, after all this, I just fuckin' rage quit the game, went upstairs to make myself a coffee and enjoy it on the patio outside, with my GF, my dog and the nice sunshine! So, hopefully tomorrow will be better! lol... Captain's log: 2952-06-27-001
Man, I swear this game wants to make my life miserable sometimes! I went for a quick mining run this morning as I had an hour to kill before work, so I hoped in my Prospector and go to my regular spot in the "Seeker Band" of the Aaron Halo, and after about 5-10 minutes, I find a nice 41% rock. I make quick work of it and end up with a full load of Q. On my way back, 52k km away from the ARC-L1, my game crashes... So, of course I'm disappointed but I still try and relog into the game. Success... I'm back in the game in my ship... but wait... in what part of my ship am I in??? I try to move around with my head (I use a Track IR) but it's not working... I think I'm in the pilot seat in the cockpit right? Wrong! I am inside the ship... like inside the frame of the ship!!! I try and move around to see if I can get out of there... and I finally do! But... I have no control of my character with my mouse... so I hit the "ASDW" keys to see if I can move and yes, I can! I realize I am not aligned with the doors of my ship to open it... so I try to move around by strafing, rolling, forward/backward, sideways to try and reach the door and interact with it... Which I am finally able to... but not before the warning tone for the unstable material starts to whine!!! So once inside the ship, I check the time I have left until it goes "BOOM!" and I only have 5m30sec!!! I engage quantum and finish the last few KMs at 400m/s, racing to the station, requesting landing permission, landing the ship in a hurry and start my run out the ship's open door for a mad dash to the terminal! Luckily for me, the elevator was already at the pad! In the end, I saved my load and my ship (and myself, lol!) with about a min on the clock. Man, was I high on adrenaline! So now... I have to fix my freaking EVA controls and big time! lol... Captain's log: 2952-01-26-001
So, true story ahead (really?)! There I was, minding my own business... killing baddies on Yela as part of a bunker mission, then looting the said baddies and, a good guy too... killed by the baddies obviously, not by me! So, I'm on my way out, pilling armor on the elevator to take to my ship right? I move on the elevator and all of a sudden, I hear laser shots... I'm on panic mode, "Damn, the turret has opened fire on my ship!" But then, I realize, wait, it can't be, I didn't kill a single good guy!" So I go out and the turret is indeed firing but not at my ship, at another ship, when I suddenly hear a big BOOM!!! I look up, and there, in the sky, I can see the remnants of a ship falling down to the ground! Oh, poor guy! I guess he never saw the warning sign "Restricted Area" flashing in red on his HUD! The dude needs glasses for sure! So I finally enter my ships when I notice some sparks coming out from a switch in my ship... and I'm like... WTF!?!?! I get on the top of my ship and sure enough... The dude was firing on my ship, he got a crime stat (I guess) and got fired upon by the turret! The world is full of idiots! lol... So, it cost me 1500aUEC to fix her up... But it's nothing compared to the feeling of knowing that the guy will be waking up in prison! :-D Captain's log: 2952-01-09-001
Ok, I got a scary, almost shitty end to my evening! My ship, with a full load of refined quantanium valued at + or - 375,000 aUEC, quantum'ed away without me! Of course I had to backspace myself as I was out in the middle of nowhere! Obviously, I thought I had lost my cargo as I was expecting to have to claim my ship! I got to the ship terminal after my short trip to CRU-L1 hospital, looking at my ships entry and, WOW!!! My ship didn't blow up, I just had to retrieve it! But, of course, I thought the quantanium would be gone, right? Wrong! As I open the cargo ramp, it was all there in my sweet cargo hold! OK, you don't know me yet, but I am cheap like really really cheap! I see my corpse marker 12,750 km's away from CRU-L1 and guess what I decide? Yep, you're right! I'll get to my corpse and loot it! I was again, expecting for something to go sideways as I got closer to my corpse... I end up 50m away from it, I EVA out to it to loot it... and BHAM... I get all the loot in my inventory on my character, the whole 511% of it (don't ask me how, and I wish I had taken a screenshot of it)! Quickly, I EVA back to my ship, making sure I don't touch the ramp, since it's on a killing spree lately, and I aim for the cargo hold! BOUM... touch down in the cargo hold, where I promptly empty my inventory into the ship's inventory to resume my trip to Area18... where I was able to finally land my Baby safely and sell all that sweet quantanium to TDD! Lesson learned for today: Things can still go your way in an Alpha! lol... Captain's log: 2950-12-12-001
I had a cute little bug happened to me. I went mining on Friday night in my Prospector and found a good rock that gave me 99% of material and, at the refinery, for 20k creds. I then logged off for the night. The next morning, I log in and go for another mining run and my sons comes in to watch me play and when I start mining, he says: Dad, your cargo hold is full! And he was right! So I head back to ARC-L1 to empty my cargo, but I had to do it twice to get rid of the materials from Friday night's run. The beauty of all this, I got the payout for all three loads! lol... |
